Editor’s Note

It’s almost here. The end of yet another school year! Sure, there’s still teaching to take place, papers to grade, and other academic details to attend to. But you can almost feel it. And so can the kids! Even if you’ve graduated from school many more years ago than you’d care to admit, there’s no mistaking that sense of excitement and anticipation that comes as the end of the school year approaches.

Here, the urgency takes the form of getting into this issue one more photo from charter school activities this year, a few more congratulations for past charter school accomplishments before it’s time to look ahead to the 2010-2011 school year and to the even more abundant accomplishments that will no doubt be celebrated.

To be sure, the excitement that comes with the end of the school year may be tempered by the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the May 18th special election to decide the merits of Proposition 100. Charter school renewals, late-summer primary elections, hirings (and maybe some firings) may be on the minds of some of us. There may be a sense of urgency to get those “must-finish” projects done before the kids stream out of the classroom for the last time (for at least awhile). But for just a moment, why not yield to that vicarious thrill of impending freedom! Go ahead, throw caution to the wind, throw up your hands, and shout out, “Woo hoo, we did it! We made it through another year!”
