Tucson Charter School Honored by ADE

City High School, a second-year charter school in Tucson, was one of 13 schools in Arizona—and the only charter school—recognized this month by the state Department of Education for innovations in teaching.

The school was honored at the second annual S.O.S.: Spotlight on Success dinner, one of several events at the Collaborative Leadership/Professional Learning Communities summit, held in Tucson April 30-May 2.

The awards are part of the Arizona High School Renewal and Improvement Initiative, designed to raise academic achievement, increase the number of high school graduates through dropout prevention efforts, and increase postsecondary attendance and completion. City High School, which emphasizes small enrollment and small class sizes, uses field trips to enhance classroom instruction. It was honored for its efforts to create a professional learning community.
