They’ve struggled. They’ve overcome. And now they’re graduating. As they transition from high school students to citizens, IntelliSchool Charter High School’s class of 2012 will get a glimpse of life inside the White House – and a final, motivating send-off – from former White House physician Dr. Connie Mariano. Mariano, the first female head of the White House Medical Unit, a retired Navy Rear Admiral, and a motivational speaker, will address the graduates at their commencement ceremony June 12th.

Mariano served under three former presidents, administering to their medical needs along with those of their family and the thousands of military and civilian personnel on the White House compound. In the process she traveled worldwide, from Spain to Kosovo to Indonesia, witnessing history as it unfolded. “Dr. Connie,” as she is affectionately known, is the highest ranking Filipina officer in U.S. naval history. She is the author of The White House Doctor: My Patients Were Presidents – A Memoir

IntelliSchool Charter High School serves students ages 14-22 with an alternative, self-paced curriculum. It has four sites in Phoenix and Chandler. Its graduation ceremony will take place at North Canyon High School in Phoenix.
